 Katherine Schafer

1 year with MRES

Term: 2020

Katherine is a retired teacher with degrees in special education and administration. She became alarmed about climate change in 2001 after President Bush pulled out of the Kyoto Protocol, and took action into her own hands by creating a curriculum on climate change for her classroom when she realized her school district had none. In 2010 she had a photovoltaic solar system installed on her home, which was featured in the 2020 National Solar Tour.

in 2013, Katherine created a solar installation in Zambia with the help of a referral from MRES. She is an active proponent of using renewable energy systems to mitigate the effects of climate change, and has volunteered with MRES on the Eco Experience and Solar Boat Regatta prior to joining the board.
