February Board Meeting: Guest Speakers: Bryan Horvat and Alan Jacobs from The Solar Vehicle Project The Solar Vehicle Project is a student organization at the University of Minnesota that completely designs and builds a solar car every two years to rayce in the biennial North American Solar Challenge. Right now, the team is busily constructing the newest solar car, Centaurus II, which will race this summer. The presentation includes a history of solar car raycing at the U, current build status for our next car, fabrication techniques, and the solar cells we use, power trackers, battery protection and motor control. Bios: Bryan Horvat is a sophomore pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a General Management minor. He is currently a member of the Mechanical team designing the brake system for the new car, Centaurus II.
