This new construction home designed by the
site owners in conjunction with architect Richard Venberg includes
three areas within its 36' x 120' structure: a home (36' x 60'), shop
(36' x 30'), and garage (36' x 30'). Utilizing passive solar and energy-efficient
design, and fourteen solar hot water collectors, the site owners
anticipate that this system, completed in August 2007, will meet
90% of the building's total energy needs. It has been the site owners'
dream since the mid-1970s to design and build an energy-efficient
home, and they are not through yet. Future plans include incorporating
a masonry heater and a 4 kW PV system.
