Design-build Hunt Utilites Group, LLC, chose to install solar on the Happy Dancing Turtle Eco-Cabin for the research and education such an installation can provide. The total building was designed first for energy efficiency with three-foot-thick walls (100 R-value), super insulation for 60 R-Value in the ceiling, and thermopane low-E argon windows. Through this process, they learned that straw bale and cob construction is labor-intensive yet effective in the design of an energy-efficient home.
