Inspired by the community thinking of the
solar project at Old Man River Cafe, the
owners of Izzy's
Ice Cream Café initiated a solar project called High
Noon Solar @ Izzy's — solar powered ice cream supported at
a private company by hundreds of donations and volunteer hours!
To make their vision a reality, Izzy's sought out and formed many
partnerships: retail and wholesale customers, staff, the Neighborhood
Energy Connection, the Green Institute, Innovative Power Systems,
Banks Electric, the City of St. Paul STAR Grant program, and many
more. The 8.6-kilowatt system started producing power on January
1, 2006, and to-date it has generated over 5,000 kWh of power for
Izzy's Ice Cream Café. They continue to fundraise for the
project and hope to close the books on fundraising by the first
of the year 2007. Come by and get a scoop of the only solar-produced
artisian ice cream in the world at Izzy's!
