Macalaster
College Wind Turbine
Snelling and St. Clair Avenues
St. Paul, MN

|
While there is always a lot of bluster at
college campuses, this is one case where it's doing something. The
first urban turbine of its kind in the Twin Cities, this installation
has been spinning gracefully above the Olin-Rice Science Building
at Macalester
College since April 2003. It is expected to produce about 18,000
kW a year, about as much energy as three energy-efficient households
will use in one year. As the electricity is purchased by Xcel Energy
with installation paid for by the Class of 2003, this installation
will provide thousands of people a year with an opportunity to see
renewable energy in action.
